The pet food drive was done to benefit the Pet Food Pantry operated by C.L.A.W.S. (the non-profit Closter Animal Welfare Society).

Information about the C.L.A.W.S. Pet Food Pantry can be found on the C.L.A.W.S. website here — http://www.clawsadopt.org/claws-pet-food-pantry/ .  In short, they collect pet food donations and operate a pantry where pet food is provided free to community members who are in financial need and cannot otherwise afford to feed and keep their pets.

The Tenafly Pet Food Drive project was organized by my son, Matthew Voss (age 12) to fulfill one of the requirements for his Citizenship in the Community merit badge.  He is a Star Scout in Tenafly Troop 86.  Two other scouts form Troop 86 also participated, Robert Cavilla and Alex Cavilla (both age 13).

The boys ran a stand outside the Tenafly Stop-N-Shop store on April 9th.  We also accepted donations April 3-9 at our home in Tenafly.

In total, the boys collected the following:

  • 136 lbs of dry dog food
  • 194 lbs of dry cat food
  • 92 cans of wet dog food
  • 209 cans of wet cat food
  • 3 lbs of cat treats

If you need a contact at C.L.A.W.S., the person that we have been working with is Theresa Rolaf (theresar@ibew164.org).
